This article examines the essence and significance of international negotiations as a means of reaching diplomatic agreements. The purpose of writing the article is to study the specifics and take into account the influence of cultural national characteristics on the course of the negotiation process. It was established that the urgent need to solve modern problems of world politics by diplomatic means introduced a number of significantly new points into the negotiation process. So, first of all, with the increase in the number of global problems and their relevance at the beginning of the 21st century in the world as a whole, the importance of international negotiations as a means of solving international problems through diplomatic channels increased. In addition, the number of negotiations in the world has also increased. In parallel with the expansion of the problems of international negotiations, a large number of participants began to be involved in their solution, who can both directly participate in the negotiations and perform the functions of experts, translators, etc. All this is a prerequisite for the formation of a system of international negotiations aimed at the joint search for a consensus solution and cooperation. The article states that diplomacy is a system of non-military practical techniques and methods that are applied taking into account certain conditions and the specifics of the tasks to be solved. The concept of "diplomacy" is also associated with the art of negotiating with the aim of preventing or resolving conflict situations, finding compromises and consensus solutions, as well as developing and deepening international cooperation. It is worth emphasizing that diplomacy, by its very nature, forms the will of the state and tries to convey it, voice it and harmonize it with the will of other states. It was found that each people has its own customs, rites, traditions, own culture, and characteristic features of the state and political system. This can significantly affect the conduct of the negotiation process. The national style reflects the most common negotiation practices that are acceptable to all representatives of the country. However, conceptual differences in different styles of conducting the negotiation process should definitely be taken into account by those participants who work for the result. Examining the issue in the Ukrainian context, it was established that the Ukrainian nation formed its mentality in the 90s of the 20th century under the influence of various cultures, which made adjustments to the system of socio-cultural values of the Ukrainian people
